Lead Pastor + Elder
AJ grew up in Geneseo, Illinois where he graduated from J.D. Darnall High School. While his time in the classroom was beneficial, the best part of high school was meeting Rebekah, who AJ married in 2004.
Even though AJ grew up in a home where Christ was proclaimed, AJ didn’t feel the weight of his sin and the death it had earned him until his sophomore year of high school. While at a camp in North Carolina, AJ understood that although his sin was great, Jesus Christ as his Savior was greater. From that moment on, AJ’s deepest desire was to be used by the Lord to bring him glory.
AJ spent his first few years out of high school working for Starbucks Coffee helping new stores throughout the Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids. In 2008, AJ began working at a church in Geneseo as the Director of Worship and Director of the Sr. High Ministry. While in these positions at the church, AJ developed a passion for the proclamation of God’s Word through preaching and a desire to pursue church planting. In the Lord’s providence, AJ joined the staff at Harvest Bible Chapel - Davenport in 2012 as a Pastoral Resident and in 2014, AJ accepted the role of Pastor of Men's Ministries. In 2016 Pastor AJ launched Harvest Bible Chapel Monmouth in Monmouth, Illinois as the Senior Pastor.
John was born in Waterloo, IA and spent his childhood years in Iowa and Illinois, graduating from Rock Island High School. John earned his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and his Executive MBA from the University of Iowa, and his Masters of Christian Studies from Denver Seminary. Having the blessing of a Godly heritage going back over three generations on both sides of his family, John accepted Christ as his personal savior at the age of five and later publicly proclaimed his faith through baptism during Jr. High.
While in college, John began his career with Deere & Company where he spent 34 years moving and travelling around the world in the areas of Accounting and Finance. In June 2007, God allowed John to take early retirement from Deere and answer God’s call to full-time vocational ministry serving as Associate Pastor at Harvest Bible Chapel-Davenport.
In his role as Executive Pastor, John has a passion for equipping, mentoring and encouraging others in their walk with Christ, desiring, as with the Apostle Paul, that all in the church body are fully equipped for the work of ministry and that all grow to full maturity in Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16).
John and his wife Jamy live in Bettendorf. Their daughter Jennifer attends school and resides in Colorado, while their son Jack, daughter-in-law Becky, grand-daughter Isabelle and grandson Charlie currently reside in Minnesota.
Jack is a caffeine dependent life form and is also a native of Monmouth, Illinois, the place he has called home for most of his life (excluding a short residential stint in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he and his wife, Amy, lived as newlyweds). Jack attended Monmouth High School, Carl Sandburg College and Monmouth College- the source for his favorite caffeine cravings.
In 1987, while enrolled at CSC, Jack met his future wife, Amy. It was also at this time that he was introduced to his Savior. Through many questions and experiences Jack chose to give his life over to Christ- committing to serve Him. On September 8, 1990 Jack and Amy were married vowing to serve Christ together.
Before devoting his vocational life to full time ministry, Jack worked forKnox/Warren Special Ed, Head Start, and the State Board of Education – directing Birth to Three educational programs and as a lobbyist for Birth to Three social and educational issues. In 2001, after several years of prayer (yes, years!) about how to be better used by God, Jack and Amy decided to accept the position as Co Directors of Starting Point, a faith based homeless shelter which eventually evolved into the expanded ministry of 1st Street Armoury Action Center. In 2003, Jack also accepted the position as Associate Pastor at Countryside Bible Church, now known as Harvest Bible Chapel Monmouth where he is honored and humbled to be able to serve. However, if you asked Jack his greatest accomplishments he’d tell you his marriage and his family. Jack and Amy are the proud parents of 5 great kids – Jessicah, Alec, Jared, Ashton and Jace.
